    Skype was founded by Estonian developers; Zahti Heinla, Priit Kasesalu, and Jaan Tallinn. Danish developer Janus Friis and, Sweden’s Niklas Zennstrom. The name SKYPE stood for “Sky Peer to Peer “. It was originally used for PC. It was created to allow landlines from PCs on a fee schedule. In 2005 a new version was released. Introducing the use of video calling with a simplified design. This would make face-to-face interactions convenient for families, friends, and businesses around the world.

    It created a setback for Friendster, which would eventually lag due to the number of users consistently logging on. Myspace was founded in 2003 by Tom Anderson & Chris Dewolfe. Once a new corporation came in and paid 580 million for Myspace in 2005, there was a rapid number of users. It brought in about 16 million monthly users. Late in 2007-2008 Myspace was the most popular social networking site and would outperform Facebook, traffic wise.

    LinkedIn started with co-founder Reid Hoffman in 2002. It was launched in May of 2003. The idea was to create the first business-orientated social online networks. Since 2016, Microsoft has taken ownership of the network. It was then made for professionals to seek employers, job search and so on.

It is a social networking and news website, where one can submit content of direct links, photos, post comments on bulletins, and such. Allows users to create forums also known as Subreddits. Reddit gives options for users to vote on posts and comments. Which rises to the top of the surface when users are reading/ scrolling through the app. It plays as a role as to “what is currently trending”.

    Vine, the short-form video platform, shut down in 2017 due to primarily financial challenges and increasing competition. Despite its initial popularity, the platform struggled to monetize effectively and retain top creators. Instagram and Snapchat, offering similar features, drew users away. Twitter, Vine's parent company, also faced internal challenges. Unable to sustain itself, Vine decided to discontinue its services, marking the end of the beloved six-second video-sharing platform.

    TikTok Launches: TikTok is a short-film video making platform owned by ByteDance. ByteDance spent nearly $1 Billion to purchace Musical.ly and merge it with TikTok. Later on on August 2nd 2018 the company merged the two apps with existing accounts consolidating into TikTok.
