Six- Degrees
This is considered the first social media platform to be created. It consisted of people making profiles and adding others to their personal networks. This is very similar to rudimentary Facebook. -
Facebook created
Founded by Mark Zuckerberg at Harvard. It has become one of the biggest social media platforms. -
Youtube
Youtube allowed users to share videos with one another. This grew to a community with the content creator and their followers. This was something that never really happened before. -
Twitter
"Within six months after the launch, Twttr had become Twitter. Once the service went public, its founders imposed a 140-character limit for messages, based on the maximum length of text messages at the time; this was later expanded to 280 characters." Link text -
Tumblr
Microblogging site and social media site. Allowed users to publish their own works of art and stories. -
Appstore debuted

Instagram

Snapchat
Started as Picaboo, an app meant for photos to be sent and disappear. This was loopholed so they added a notification when someone screenshotted. This led to the rebranding of snapchat. -
Vine
Vine was a platform that was soon taken over my musically and then TikTok. It lasted until 2016. -
Tiktok
This platform is based on lip-syncing videos but has since moved on to small comedy skits. -
Digital Wellbeing
Recently, social media platforms such as Tiktok and Instagram have made moves towards digital wellbeing by setting reminders when someone is watching too many videos, or in Instagram's case, phasing out the like system.
