    First World Cup held in Montevideo, Uruguay sees the host nation become the first World Cup winner in history beating Argentina 4-2 in the final.

  • Laws are amended

    Laws are amended to allow substitutions for the first time although only for an injured goalkeeper and one other player.

    World Cup expanded to include 24 teams.
