  • The British Invasion

    Throughout a period of 1959 to 1964, Rock and Roll died in the U.S. before the introduction of a British band called the Beatles who soon gained a reputation in the U.S. as teen idols. Millions of girls screamed and passed out just to be in the same vicinity as them.

  • The American Response

    Thus came the rise of folk rock and bands like The Byrds and Cher took the mainstream charts. However the Beatles were still on a roll in the states taking arenas by the throat and putting there everything into there live show as well as putting out consistent good records out.

    Artists like James Brown take over. James Brown creates a new and exciting, energentic type of music for the world. His music becomes known as funk because of the offtempo drumming beats, the choppy and distorted guitar riffs, and of course, the ridiculously complex and endless slap bass solos.

    The Beatles break up in 1970 following the deaths of two important members. This paves the way for a new era of rock and it attracts the audience of 12-20 year old men now. This is now the time of bands like Metallica, Kiss, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Bruce Springsteen, and Van Halen

    Grunge

    At this point 15 year old boys were spending their summers sitting in their rooms blasting Metallica's Ride the Lightning, Iron Maiden's The Trooper, and Ozzy Osbourne's Blizzard of Ozz. However, everything changed in 1991 upon the release of Pearl Jam's Ten and Nirvana's Nevermind. These two albums changed how everyone saw music at the time and introduced Grunge to the U.S. This also brought up bands like Alice in Chains and Soundgarden in the 90's. The era ended upon the suicide of Kurt Cobain
  • The White Stripes

    The new hype of rock is born from rock guitarist and singer Jack White, introducing his alternative/indistrial rock band The White Stripes. This brought up bands like Weezer. Also this time a new type of metal was introduced called Nu-metal bringing with it bands like Marilyn Manson, Korn, Slipknot, Deftones, and System of a down.

  • The Rise of Metalcore

    A new breed of metal was introduced this year when bands came to critics attention like Avenged Sevenfold, Underoath, A Day To Remember, and Motionless In White. These bands are most usually considered the pioneers of metalcore. Metalcore built the foundation for many breakaway genres such as djent, and industrial metal. These are just a few subgenres of the core breed founded in the twenty first century
  • The Rise of Modern Rock

    Since early 2013 many bands have hit the charts and reached insurmountable amounts of popularity. Teenagers all over the world are embracing this new type of rock combining many different genres. Bands like Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco, Twenty One Pilots, and Arctic Monkeys have consistently been hitting the tops of the charts in the U.S as they currently are today.
