  • The Warden

    Philadelphia created the warden position. The warden hired watchmen to patrol the streets and act as detectives. (Pages 17-18)
  • 24-hour protection

    My the mid 1800's, some major city's now have day and night policing.
  • Guns

    Police began to carry revolvers.
  • Peel's Territorial Strategy

    Sir Robert Peel's strategy of having police officers walking the same path to prevent crimes. He also believed in a more organized policing. This has spread to most major cities. (Page 18)
  • Technology

    By 1878, telegraphs and then telephones were being utilized. (Page 19)
  • Pendleton Act

    The Federal Bureau of Investigations was established. (Page, 18)

    LEAA provided money to improve and strengthen the criminal justice agencies. (pg 24)
