    Founding
    William Penn got a royal charter from King Charles II to create a safe colony for Quakers. It was then named Pennsylvania. It was named after his father, Admiral Sir William Penn

    Penn Derived of Colony

    The English Revolution in 1688 caused the overthrow of King James. This derived Penn of his colony from 1692 to 1694 because the king that held his charter was overthrown, which means his charter was canceled.
  • Proprietor Visit

    A proprietor visited Pennsylvania and eventually agreed to make it a royal colony again.

    Charter of Privileges

    The proprietor that visited in 1699 agreed with the Assembly in 1701 on a revised constitution called the "Charter of Privileges." This made Pennsylvania a royal colony again and lasted until 1776. This made the religious assurances of Penn absolute.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    This was a gathering of colonial leaders that were deeply troubled about the relations with the British. The closing of the Boston harbor was one of the reasons that the congress happened. The leaders decided to encourage people to continue boycotting British goods.
  • Second Continental Congress

    Second Continental Congress
    King George III refused to address the concerns of the colonists. Delegates from 12 of the 13 colonies met in Philadelphia. This was the first attempt at a Republican Government. Some colonists wanted war, and some of them wanted peace. The result of this congress was authorizing the Massachusetts Militia to become the Continental Army.
