Henry Hudson claimed Hudson Bay
In 1609, Henry Hudson was chosen by the Dutch East India Company to find a water passage to the east. Instead he found Hudson Bay in 1610 and claimed it for England wich flows through the eastern part of North Dakota. -

Lewis and Clark went to Mandan-Hidatsa Indian villages where they built Fort Mandan. -
American Fur company
The American Fur company opened Fort Union, wich remained the most important trading post in the area for 40 years. -
North Dakota becomes a State
North Dakota was the 39th or the 40th state admitted to the United states. No one knows for sure. South Dakota was admitted at the same time, and the Secretary of State signing the papers kept them hid, so no one could see which one the President signed first. -
Theodore Roosevelt
A small ranch operater, Theodore Roosevelt became the 26th president of the United States and was in office from 1901 to 1909. -
Influenza
Walking down any given street in the year 1918 between the months of June and December, one would take notice of coffins lining the sidewalks. Nobody was on the streets, and dead bodies were stuffed into every available space. The Flu Epidemic of 1918 not only was the most devastating event of the twentieth century, but propelled the United States to search for a vaccine that has not yet been found, causing concern that the flu will strike again. -

Ruth Meiers
Ruth Meiers was the first female Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota. She became the 33rd Lieutenant Governor in 1985. Meiers was diagnosed with lung and brain cancer in 1986 and died in office six months later in March 1987. The Ruth Meiers Hospitality House is named in her honor. -
U.S. Geological Survey
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has completed an assessment of the undiscovered oil and associated gas resources of the Upper Devonian to Lower Mississippian Bakken Formation in the U.S. portion of the Williston Basin of Montana and North Dakota and within the Williston Basin Province.
