Bill france Sr. held a meeting at the Streamline Hotel in December of 1947 to discuss the organization of stock-car racing. France had already promoted races on the city's beach road courses. The first race sanctioned by NASCAR was held on Daytona's beach course on Feb. 15, 1948. Six days later on Feb. 21, NASCAR was incorporated. However, it wasn't until 1949 that what is now the Cup Series was born. -
