T.Rex - 20th Century Boy
Created in 1973, the song reached number three in the charts and 18 years later reached number 13 due to being used on an advert. the music video was then shown on MTV, however only featured clips of the band performing the song at a concert and also the people in the crowd enjoying the music. The video also used overlay visual effects and often swapped colour out for black and white o give it and edgy look, although their was no narrative to go with the song. -

ACDC - Back in Black
Back in Black was one of six song by ACDC that featured a basic performance video, just like T.Rex's 20th century boy. This was due to narrative being a part of the music video not yet being commonly used. During the video the focus of the shot would be who was most important during this part of the song. For example during the guitar solo, the lead guitarist, Angus Young, would be the one being filmed and shown during the video. -

MTV (Music Television) is an American television channel which is a subsidiary of the "Viacom Music and Entertainment Group". Launched in 1981 the original purpose of the channel was to play the most popular and recent songs/albums to a wide audience, mainly teens and young adults. This was an extremely evolutionary concept for the music industry and allowed anybody with a TV able to watch and listen to the new songs, this also encouraged the use of a narrative throughout the music video. -

Michael Jackson transformed music videos into an art form and a way to promote a song through the use of story lines, dance routines, special effects and cameo appearances by well known personalities. The Thriller video aired on MTV and was ran twice an hour to meet demand. The video has been routinely named the best music video ever. It featured Michael Jackson singing to a girl whilst walking through a graveyard, which then would turn into one of the most well known dance routines to date. -

Released on DGC Records the song was extremely popular and converted to Nirvana to a more mainstream band. The music video featured the band playing the song in a gym hall, however they were surrounded by a crowd and had cheer leaders. This meant that they were part of the narrative however were still performing the song instead of acting out another activity. This site is often used by other companies (like vevo) to release new singles for different artist, allowing for feedback. -

The music video used for one of Muse's greatest hits features probably the most common method of music video, switching between narrative and the band playing. However the video is slightly abnormal and was based on a reoccuring dream the producer had. It feature people in zentai suits dancing in a way that matches the type of music genre. Visual effects are also used over the top of the video and throughout, to soften the transition between band and narrative -

Gangnam style is K-pop genre song and was a huge hit all around the world, this is due to the fairly new method, YouTube. the video recieved around 2,600,000,000 views world wide. This is one of the most viewed videos on the entire website and allowed it to be seen nationally. Even though the song was in korean and the narrative of the video was slightly confusing it was still loved by millions of people and gave K-pop a wider audience. -

Coldplay - Adventure of a Lifetime
The official music video was directed by Mat Whitecross. The concept for the video came from Chris Martin and Andy Serkis. The video was create using CGI and took about six months to make. The video features four apes, representing the four band members, which lip sync to the music and all play the instruments the real member would be. This uses narrative to show the band playing without having to cut to the band, meaning everything remains in the the made up jungle scene.
