Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Assassinated. This had profound effect on the African American community. Dr. Martin Luther King influenced his community through speech and peaceful marches. -
PARC
Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Children (PARC) states that children with mental retardation are entitled to a free public education. This allowed children to have equal opportunity. -
The Refugee Act 1980
This act built on the Immigration act if 1965. Jimmy Carter signed this act on March 18th 1980. This resettled millions of people. -
Personal Computer
IBM introduces its first version of a PC. This is monumental because today we use laptops, desktops, and smart phones for everything. -
Universal Preschool
Georgia creates universal preschool to kids who are four years old. Half of the states kids who are eligible for the program are now enrolled. This program is free and allows kids to grow and expand their knowledge. -
First African American President
January 20 2009 Barack Obama became the first African American president to be elected into office. He made Obama Care, same sex marriage legal, and gave hope to people who thought something was impossible. -
New Texas Social Studies Cirriculum
On March 12 2010 Texas passed a law that some people would consider ultraconservative. The fear was that this would spread to other states.
