    Ruby Bridges was the first African American to attend an all-white school in New Orleans. On Rubys first day, all parents pulled their child of ouf her class and teachers refused to teach a black child. Ruby has to be escorted to and from school because of the protests and hatred coming from the white community.

    The purpose of the No Child Left behind Act is to close student achievement gaps by providing all children with a fair and equal opportunity to have a high-quality education. This Act requires each state to establish state academic standards and a testing system for students to meet the requirements.
