The National Organization for Women (NOW) is founded and fights for equality for the sexes. They show that women should not be in the back of American culture and can lead and be apart of the different aspects of it. They support equal pay, expression of women, and the controversial subject of abortion. -

Stonewall Inn Raid
Stonewall Inn was a tavern that served to homosexuals and actively supported them. Polic e often targeted "gay bars" over a regular bar. This incident was one of the first events that led to homosexual rights becoming a big issue in America. The Stonewall Inn closed in 1969 and a new one was erected in its honor in 1990. -
Regents of the University of California vs. Bakke
The controversal court case that made certain aspects of affirmative actions illegal. While schools and businesses were encouraged to help previously disadvantaged groups, this case decided a quota system is not constitutional. The case showed that putting equal opportunity is how schools and businesses should operate. -
Plyer V Doe
This court case shut down state's ability to restrict illegal immigrant children from attending school. It helped immigrants who came to spread their culture to schools and expose students to other countrie's customs. The case showed that everyone should be entitled to a proper education. -
Arthur Ashe Contracts HIV
Arthur Ashe was a world class tennis player who announced he had contracted HIV. He spread awareness on what the disease really is. He tried removing the stigma against people living with HIV and his legacy has helped with the decline of HIV in the U.S. -
Americans with Disabilities Act.
The Americans with disabilities act helps prevent the discrimintation against people with disabilities. Physical and mental disabilities are covered and the equal employment opportunity commision is a regulator of the act. This helps give the disabled a voice and allows them to function as if they had no condition. -
Rodney King Riots
Rodney King represented the abuse of power of cops against minorites. The riots were sparked from the violent attack on a defenseless King. This showed how all races need to be treated equally in law enforcment. -
Caitlyn Jenner Reveals Herself
Bruce Jenner came out as a transgender woman and has been the center of U.S. media for a while. She is now known as Caitlyn and actively supports the transgender community. This act has revealed the transgender culture into mainstream media. -

Same-sex is legalized throught all of America and is a historic event for the homosexual community. The acceptance and encouragement of the gay community is at an all time high in the U.S. The couples are now recognized as equal as a heterosecual couple.
