    First Bilingual and Bicultural Public School in US
    Many Cuban immigrants were coming into the United States. In response to the number of students needing an education the first bilingual and bicultural school was opened in Miami. This is important to multicultural education because it gave a greater opportunity for children to get as much of an equal opportunity to education as they could.
  • Equality of Educational Opportunity Study

    Equality of Educational Opportunity Study
    This was an important event in multicultural history because it gave the African American minority group access to education. This study showed that busing students was important because African American students were benefiting from having more access to an education.
  • Diana v. California State Board

    Diana v. California State Board
    The case of Diana v. the California State Board addressed an issue that was along the lines of discrimination against Mexican American students. Students were administered a standardized IQ tests, and based off their scores they were placed in a special education class that was not benefiting their academic success. This case showed that tests needed to be given using the child's home language. A decision like this is important in getting a better understanding of a child's true abilities.

    Indian Education Act
    The Indian Education Act was created to better suit the population of Native Americans and Alaskan Native students. This was important because the needs of a smaller minority were noticed and this act recognized another culture and it's purpose was to recognize unique needs of the Native American population and offer assistance to address those needs by providing funding.

    Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972
    The changes made here were made to "prohibit discrimination based on sex in all aspects of education." This was important because it applied to a gender which was given partial unequal treatment and with this event the unfairness was gotten rid of.

    Equal Educational Opportunities Act
    The EEOA was an act that guaranteed that all people be given equal treatment and discrimination was essentially banned. All the students were protected and the act called for all educators and schools to do anything possible to ensure that they were giving fair treatment and making education accessible and school environments free of discrimination.

    The Emergency Immigrant Education Act
    This act helps those schools whose majority population is immigrant students. The act provides services and funding to offset costs, and the funding is given to the states and the state determines which school districts receive the funding.
  • Improving America's Schools Act

    Improving America's Schools Act
    This act was important because there was more funding offered to bilingual and immigrant education. Most of these populations were minority students, and this funding was given and it would help make their educational experience more beneficial.
  • Higher Education Act

    Higher Education Act
    The Higher Education act made gave better access to low and middle income families to higher education. This is turn improved multicultural education it offered minority students more opportunity to receive an education.
  • Every Student Succeeds Act

    Every Student Succeeds Act
    The act was requiring states to essentially take a better look at the success of their schools. Schools performing very low were looked into and doing and intervention to find ways to make the schools better fit to ensure all of their students success.
