Plyer v. Doe
The state of Texas was withholding funds to local schools for educating illegal immigrants. The court ruled that illegal immigrants are people "in any ordinary sense of the term" and were protected under the 14th amendment. -
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act 1997
The ensured that all students with disabilities will have a free education with appropriate educational plans and curriculum. It also needs to be shaped to prepare students for independent living, employment, and higher education. -
Colin v. Orange Unified School District
Orange Unified School District denied a club application for the Gay-Straight Alliance. The club founder and members sued saying it was in violation of the Equal Access Act. The court ruled in favor of GSA and their were able to create the club and have the same privileges as the other clubs. -
No Child Left Behind Act
The act requires schools to perform assessments on all grade levels of skills in order to receive federal funding. The goal was to improve academic achievements regardless of social standing. -
