Hospitals became religious institutions. They started providing care for injured soldiers. Began creating health and sanitation systems. Galen thought of 4 humors that he believed the body was regulated by. 25-35 year lifespan. -

Dark Ages
Prayer and divine intervention were used as treatment or illness, study of medicine was not allowed. Herbal mixtures were medicine. Disease was thought to be caused by circumstance. 20-30 year lifes. -

Medicine needed to be practiced before it was preformed, starting in 1100 when licenses became required. Many major diseases took out majority of some populations. Medical universities were established around 1220. 20-35 year lifespan. -

Rebirth of medical science. Body dissections allowed for further knowledge o human anatomy. Printing press allowed medical information to be shared. Cause of disease is still unknown. Lifespan of 30-40 years. -

New information about the human body was discovered. Medicines were being created and sold. New technology allowed for better knowledge. Still no knowledge of what causes disease. Lifespan o 35-45 years. -
18th Century
First mercury thermometer was created, along with bifocals. Tube feeding was introduced. Smallpox vaccine was created. 40-50 year lifespan. -

Microorganisms, vaccines and anesthesia help medicine to advance. New X-ray machine was developed, open heart surgery was preformed or the first time. Stethoscope was created, and nurses began training. 40-60 year lifespan. -
