Marine Zoological Laboratory
C. Floyd Jackson opened one of the first Marine Zoological Laboratory on Appledore island, also called Isles of Shoals. In the country it was one of the first undergraduate program of its kind.

UNH Professor
C. Floyd Jackson is a UNH professor of zoology. He is interested in studying the sea and great bay. He is responsible for establishing UNH's early committee to marine biology by hiring faculty that also had the same idea as him.

Marine Laboratory Location

Jackson Estuarine Laboratory
This laboratory was dedicated to the "father" of marine biology, professor C. Floyd Jackson. This research vessel christened the "Jere Chase".

Portsmouth
A Portsmouth Commercial Fishing pier was built and right after UNH arranged a permanent slip for research vessel.

UNH was designated as a Sea grant College with the University of Maine.This was one of the first joint arrangement in the US.

Marine Labs
A coastal Marine lab was created in New Castle. That's when NH established and provided coastal ocean access for researcher and diving training.

Organizing programs
After a while the Marine programs were reorganized into three groups. These three groups were called:Center for Marine Biology, Center for Ocean Engineering and Center for Ocean Sciences.

Educational Center
Sandy Point Discovery Center opened and was used as the educational center for the Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. this was located on Great Bay in Stratham, N.H.

Coastal Ocean issues
Northeast Consortium was established, this is the UNH-University of Maine partnership that collaborates with commercial fishermen regarding coastal ocean issues that are damaging our oceans. -
Mapping
The center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping also called joint Hydro graphic center was established. It was called the Chase Ocean Engineering Lab.

Aquaculture program
The Cooperative Institute for New England Mariculture and Fisheries was established. This manages UNH's Open Ocean Aquaculture program.
