    Human colonization of Madagascar began between 1350 and 1100 BC. The civilization of Madagascar is known as the Rasikachya civilization. The civilizations religion is very separated and not everyone has the same religion. The religion in Madagascar, is Church 34%, Roman Catholic 32.3%, Christian 8.1%, traditional/Animist 1.7%, Muslim 1.4%, other 0.6%, and none are 21.9%.     The first inheritance in Madagascar, was first inhabited in 700 BCE. It began in The Merina Kingdom. Madagascar was first settled during or before the mid first millennium after dominion by Austronesian peoples. We still have not researched it yet so Little is known about the origin of this civilisation and how they first arrived in Madagascar. The Malagasy are the descendants of a unique prehistoric admixture event between African and Asian individuals.

    Around the year 1000, migrants from Southeastern Africa arrived in Madagascar. When the Bantu-speaking people arrived in Madagascar, they met the Malagasy ancestral Asian population. Together, they sustained a population of a few hundred people, which is more than it was in the beginning. They were able to utilize zebu, something that looks like a mix between a goat and a cow, which helped them with the landscaping of Madagascar. There were still not many people on the island. -Ava

    Diogo Dias-First person to discover Madagascar
    The first person to discover, or visit, Madagascar was Diogo Dias. He was traveling with a group to India, when he was separated from them. He eventually made it to find this island. He made it to the island in 1500, but also died in 1500. After he made it to Madagascar, there were many more Portuguese explorers. Dias passed away in 1500 and only lived for 50 years. There was no information I could find about his passing. There was also not much information about the impact that he made. -Ava

    The Portuguese came and explored
    In the early 16th century some Portuguese sailors found many towns inhabited by afro-arabs along the coast of northern Madagascar. Afro-Arabs are arabs from full or partial African bloodline. The towns were part of a commercial network in the Indian Ocean. Between 1507 and 1513 some Portuguese explorers saw the arrival of these afro-arabs. After a few years the locals formed a new group called the Antemoro, who later formed a theoretical state.

    In the 1630s the group Antemoro formed a theoretical state. Which was the only Malagasy that we know of at the time. It was written down in the Malagasy language using the Arabic alphabet. It had spiritual and earthly attributes to it. Because of the accessibility to Islam muslim became normal for many of the Antemoro people. Ultimately the Antemoro holy men traversed all over Madagascar and became introduced to other religions and governments. -Keira

    The Death of Ratsimilaho
    Ratsimilaho was the son of an English pirate and ruled in the early 18th century. He brought together many chiefdoms all along the coast for 400 miles and gave the Betsimisaraka people their name. However, the kingdom he established collapsed in 1791 with the death of the dynasty's third ruler. After the fall of Betsimisaraka, most of the people fell into the rule of the growing Merina Kingdom. They were ruled by the Merina kingdom until the French came in the 1890s. -Keira

    In 1789 Madagascar was a big thing for being slaves and about 50,000 were enslaved and traded in Madagascar by the French. Also in 1791 some people betrayed the people of Madagascar and sold their people and sold other people from other countries. There were so many slaves traded and enslaved they had to create a system which is called corvée. Then in 1804 they started trading goods like rice, rubber, and graphite, and in 1809 the French started trading with them. -Kayden

    In 1885 The treaty of peace was a treaty that was to be made for protection for Madagascar from the British because they were taking over. But the French took it over in 1886 by taking down all the forces. But then in 1890 the Madagascar island people took the island back over and they sign a treaty that ended the wars and kept France out of Madagascar, and Madagascar made the own empire with there new queen Ramdam’s and Madagascar made themselves one of the best to trade. -Kayden

    In 1947 an insurrection happened in Madagascar with police stations being raided in the east and the south. But the French doubled the defenses around the island in response to this act. Which the people of Madagascar repression led to fight them but more than 90,000 or more deaths happened that day. While this was going on this caused two underground organizations which are Vy Vato Sakelike and the JINA which these two were from reformists of the MDRM. -Kayden
