History of literacy: how I learned to read

  • Go Dog Go

    Go Dog Go
This is the first book I ever remember reading. At age 4 or so, I remember pretending to read this because i had memorized every word.
  • Dr. Seuss books

    Dr. Seuss books
These were some of my favorite stories, starting at an early age.
  • Garfield comics

    Garfield comics
Relatively early in life, I learned to laugh at Garfield and his wacky adventures.
  • Goosebumps series

    Goosebumps series
These books always interested me because they presented the unknown in a less than nice way.
  • Greek Mythology

    Greek Mythology
Greek mythology always appealed to me because it was so surreal, and greater than life.
  • Harry Potter

    Harry Potter
I watched the first two movies and loved them, so naturally when I found out about the books, I had to read them.
  • Artemis Fowl

    Artemis Fowl
I liked the cover art, when I saw it. Now I have read all of them.
  • Percy Jackson

    Percy Jackson
This series was amazing, because it brought my favorite topic, Greek mythology, into the modern age.
  • Diary of a Wimpy Kid

    Diary of a Wimpy Kid
I read these books towards the end of elementary school, because I was getting less into reading, and they were short, funny, and had pictures
  • Dr. Seuss Biography

    Dr. Seuss Biography
Since I liked his books so much, it made sense to read his biography, and present on it when the assignment came up.
  • Crash

    Crash
I liked this book, because I could relate so well with the secondary character, because in elementary school I was the weak, nerdy kid.
  • Cirque Du Freak

    Cirque Du Freak
This series really got to me, because it is one of the only series that I have ever read where the main character dies. Before this series I never would have thought that books could end in that way.
  • The Outsiders

    The Outsiders
I enjoyed this book, again, because it related to what my dad does for a living, dealing with gangs and such. I felt that I could get to know him even better if I read it.
  • The Chronicles of Vlad Todd

    The Chronicles of Vlad Todd
For whatever reason, I couldn't stop reading these books. I even re-read them to catch up for the spin off series.
  • Demonata series

    Demonata series
This series was written by the same author as the Cirque du Freak series, so I decided to check it out. I ended up reading all 11 books in a month.
  • Flowers for Algernon

    Flowers for Algernon
This book interested me greatly, due to the fact that it was about mental illness, and my dad is a psychologist. So I just had to learn more.
  • Star Wars comics

    Star Wars comics
By this point I barely read, so comics became my go to form of reading.
  • To Kill a Mockingbird

    To Kill a Mockingbird
This interested me because it dealt with the idea of racism, which I was not accustomed to.
  • Marvel comics

    Marvel comics
Since I still enjoy comic books, the Marvel universe was perfect for me, since they had movies coming out, and the universe was so expansive, with so many enjoyable characters
  • The Great Gatsby

    The Great Gatsby
This is one of the few mandatory books of high school that I, not only read, but liked as well.
