Haymark Riot
What started out as a labor protest in Chicago, turned into a riot after someone threw a bomb at the Police. At least 8 people died, leading to a set back for organized labor movements. -
Homestead Strike
The homestead strike was a riot between the Carnegie Steel Company and the workers. The end result was a defeat for the union, pushing back their efforts of creating a union for steelworkers. -
Shirtwaist Factory Fire
In NYC, at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory, 145 workers burned to death in a fire. These deaths could have been avoided, if management did not neglect safety. This event brought attention to sweatshops and the mistreatment of employees. -
The Wagner Act
The Wagner Act established the ability to organize unions and establish legal rights of workers. Workers could now bargain with their employers. -
Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938
This Act established a minimum wage, overtime pay, and child labor laws.This act affected some 700,000 workers. -
Taft-Hartley Act
The Taft-Hartley Act was made to make amendments to the Wagner Act. It was designed to restrict the power of labor unions.
