John Peter Zenger
John Peter Zenger is most known for his popular case in 1734, claiming that he commited seditious libel which is a written statement giving false information about someone. In this case it was about William Cosby, colonial governor of New York. He was arrested and tried and determined not guilty using the only defense for libel, truth. -

Horace Greeley was a part of the Liberal Republican Party. He edited and founded the New York Tribune. He was so important because his paper was the most influential paper from the 1840s to 1870s. He was considered the greatest editor of his day. -

Robert S. Abbott created The Chicago Defender in 1905, the first African-American newspaper. This newspaper became the most widely circulated black paper in America. It encoraged blacks to leave to the North for jobs. It became daily in 1965 by Abbott's nephew, John H. Sengstacke. -

Edward R. Murrow reported European crises, including Hitler and the Heoght of Blitz. You would see him on CBS and on the CBS Radio Network. He was famous for the 1930's. -

Freedom of Information Act was an act to protect full or partial closure of documents controlled by the United States Government. It was made because of the problem of American citizens rights and the governments subservience. -

The Pentagon Papers appeared in the New York Times in excerpts starting in 1996, but was officialy realeased in 2011. These papers appeared because a certain person named Daniel Ellsberg leaked to a reporter at the New York Times. -

Yellow Journalism is a type of journalism that was written solely for entertainment. It is unethical, irresponsible brand of journalism. They used altered photos and hoaxes. There is still types of Yellow Journalism today, the magazine The National Enquirer is an example. -
