In 1876 John Deere established an official trademark because it was the only way to protect their product from frauds. Although this company had already been well established, it was commonly referred to as the "Moline Tractor" company. -

Manufacturers decided that the logo for John Deere was too complicated for easy stencils to be made so they could put the logo on the product. They removed all detail and just made things solid color and added a 12 sided border around the logo. -

Only a year later they decided to rid of the border and the Slogan at the bottom because they were making more tractors than ever before, and figured it would help save money. -

Finally John Deere dropped the "Moline Ill." on it's logo, and came up with the new slogan "Quality Farm Equipment". They turned around the antlers to look like a White-tail deer, and removed the log it was jumping over. The reason this image says 1950 is because they didn't register the trademark until then. -
