British troops occupied Baghdad, Iraq. Britain was given mandate in Palestine and Mesopotamia. France was given mandate in Syria and Lebonon. The area of Basra, Baghdad and Mosul was renamed Iraq. -

Iraq was created as an independent state under the monarchy of Faisal I. The condition for this monarchy was to work under British rule for25 years concerning foreign affairs. -

Ahmad Hasan Bakr was replaced by Saddam Hussein as the President of Iraq. COL Bakr's health was the reason he stepped down. -
Iraq invades Kuwait
Iraq invades Kuwait. The United Nations asked Saddam Hussein for a full withdrawal of forces; he refused. Colalition Forces launched an attack on Iraq. This was the beginning of the first Gulf War. -
Operation Iraqi Freedom
American and British troops invade Iraq via Kuwait with the goal of bring down Saddam Hussein who was violating international law and not following rules set by the United Nations. This was Operation Iraqi Freedom. -
Saddam Hussein Captured
Saddam Hussein was captured at a farm house in the City of Tikrit, Iraq. He was held and convicted of crimes against civilization. Three years later he died by hanging. In 2005, Iraq had it's first free election. -
Invasion
A Shi'ite group inveaed Baghdad and the Abbasid Empire was reduced to a powerless symbol. The Islamic civilaiztion was established in Iraq. -
