First Computation Devices

In 2000 BC the Sumerians made the very first computation device, "The Abacus". It is a simple tool that can perform complex mathematical exquations. Once one learns how to use a abacus, thier mental math ability is improoved, all they have to do is visualize a Abacus in thier mind. Hence, they will be able to solve complex mathematical equations in thier head with the speed of the Abacus without the need of one.

First Mechanical calculator

The Arithmometer was the first mass produced mechanical calculator for the public. It was invented by a frenchman named Thomas de Colmar. He invented the device in 1821 but spent 30 more years perfecting it. There were 5000 Arithmometers produced. They are all able to perfom the 4 basic math functions of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

First Mordern Computers Made

First mordern computers made in the early 1940's which were able to print documents and type in morse code. The main use of the computers was to do math. These computers were able to solve problems without errors and were used mainly by the united states during the war to dichiper german transmissions and navigate the troops.

First ARPANET Link Established

The Apranet was the precursor of the internet. The first link was establised on october 29, 1969 from Univercity of California to the Stanford Research Institute. The first connection crased the SRI host but the second connection remained stable.

First FTP Server

The File transfer protocol (FTP) was a very basic protocol used for transfering computer files. FTP was later replaced by the Internet protocol (IP) in the June of 1980. FTP is a bit faster but it has trouble with security.

Ethernet Invented

The ethernet was invented by Bob Metcalfe in 1973 but it wasn't standardized till februrary 1980 by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Ethernet initially competed with two largely proprietary systems but by the late 1980s, Ethernet had become the dominant network technology.

Nasa Connects to APRANET

By 1975, The APRANET has 61 nodes. Later in the year, NASA begins planning its own space physics network through the APRANET. With so many nodes and new protocols being developed, interoperability was becoming an issue.

APRANET Program completed

The ARPANET is completed in early 1978. With the results of 10 years of research, developing the new internet becomes easier. Because of the APRANET, the new Internet will be easier to standardize and adapt to the variety and growing number of protocols.

Apranet Adapted to Internet

In the early 1980's there were so many networks and protocols that were developed that a way had to be found to unify them all. The Internet Protocol solved this problem in 1983 after the Apranet was adapted into it. The Internet united the different networks into one.

World Wide Web Invented

ARPANET formally shuts down

After the World wide web has been invented, there is little need fot the APRANET, hence it is discontinued. Throughout the 20 years of APRANET, it had grown from 4 to more than 300000 hosts connecting 10 different countries.

First public implementation of Java
