Chinese Head Tax
The Chinese head tax was made on Chinese immigration to Canada between 1885 and 1923, under the Chinese Immigration Act. Chinese people had to pay $50 then $100, then $500 to come to Canada. When the tax was removed in 1923, the Chinese were then banned till 1947. -
Komagata Maru Incident
The steamship "Komagata Maru" started in Hong Kong then made 5 other stops, ending in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. They carried 376 passengers from Punjab, British India. 24 of those people were invited into Canada, the remaining people on the ship were forced to return to India. The passengers on the ship were of all nationalities 340 Sikhs, 24 Muslims, and 12 Hindus, all British subjects. -
Internment of Ukrainian Canadians
The Canadian Ukrainian Internment happened during and 2 years after the end of the first world war, lasting from 1914 to 1920 under the War Measures Act. Canada was at war with Austria-Hungary, 4,000 men and some of those women and even children of Arstuo-Hungarian citizenship were kept in 24 concentration camps and related work sites. They were deprived of their savings money until they were let go. -
Internment of Itailian Canadians
In 1939 they used these camps to internment "enemy aliens".There were 26 internment camps in Canada during World War II. Italian Canadian males were interned in three camps. Most of the Italian Canadians from central and eastern Canada were sent to Petawawa in June 1940. -
Internment of Japenese Canadians
Beginning after the attack on pearl harbour on December 7,1941.People of Japanese heritage were took from there homes and jobs and put into these internment camps. This lasted until 1949, four years after world war 2 had ended. -
Refugees being added as an Immigration Catigory
This was added to the immigration categories in 1969 it helps to better our reputation in that we help those who need it. We allow those who are requmended by UN or those who request entry because of the none safety in there home town. -
Immigration Act
It defined refuges as distinct immigrants. Making it a mandatory responsibility on the government to plan for the future of immigration It was the first immigration act to clearly outline the fundamental objectives of Canadian immigration. -
Singh Decision
The decision is Satnav Singh came to Canada from India seeking refugee status. Canada's government decided to rejected his case because of the Immigration Act, 1976. He said "Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of except in accordance with the principles of fundamental justice." The Supreme Court said everyone means everyone inside of Canada. -
Immigration and refugee protection act
Replacing the "Immigration act" In 1976 the Immigration and refugee protection act became primary federal legislation regulating immigration to Canada. IRPA creates goals and guidelines the Canadian government has set regarding immigration into Canada by foreign residents. It contains laws that will specify how it is to be applied.
