Chinese Head Tax
The Chinese who desired to immigrate to Canada had to pay a tax to the government, this tax could vary between who the immigrant was. Every Chinese immigrant had to get a certificate proving that they had paid the price of their head tax. There were many immigrants from China and the majority of them ended up working on the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway. -

Komagata Maru Incident
This was a Japanese ship by the name of Komagata Maru, it was carrying a mass amount of Indian immigrants hoping to enter Canada. The policy was if you sailed directly from India to Canada you were allowed into the country, due to the fact of no shipping line providing this service Indians could not get into Canada. Once the boat arrive in Vancouver and was rejected all of the Indians on the ship began to protest Canadas immigration policies. -
Internment of Canadian Ukrainians
Ukrainian people and those of German decent were just arrested and later sent to camps just for their identity. This was all possible through the war measures act (passed in 1914) allowing the government to take away peoples homes and belongings. These people were forced to perform hard manual labour such as construct roads, railways and whatever else the government instructed them to build, the worst part is all of this was done without pay. -
Internment of Italian Candians
Starting in 1940 Canada used the war measures act to arrest anyone of Italian decent and ship them off to camps, this was due to the fact that Italy declared war on Canada. All of the arrest were mainly of men although a some of the Italian families were required to follow men to the camps. Around 700 people were impacted by the arrests and even some people had their property taken from he as part of this process. -
Internment of Italian Candians
Canada took advantage of the war measures act once again to arrest anyone who was of Italian decent as the Italians had declared war against Canada. These arrests mainly effected men but some of the families had to follow the men to the camps. These arrests impacted around 700 people and some also had their property seized on top of the arrest. These arrests harmed so many Italians in the year of 1940 and 50 years later Prime Minister Brian Mulroney apologized to the Italian community of Canada. -
The Internment of Japanese Canadians
Once the Japanese had attacked Pearl Harbour Canada had taken immediate action by forcing the Japanese that were located in Canada to leave their homes, this included 20 000 men, women, and children. When they were forced away from their homes all they could bring with them was all that they could carry nothing more nothing less, following that they were put onto trains and transported inland. Once they were in the camps the only way for them to leave was to get permission from and RCMP officer. -
Immigration Point System
The immigration point system helps to see if your eligible to enter Canada as an immigrant, it is like a survey that you fill out and if you have enough points you are eligible to enter Canada. This point system only applies to those of the Economic Class of immigrant. If your are any other class of immigrant then you do not have to follow this point system. -
Immigration Act
The immigration act are terms that immigrants to Canada must follow, it was put in place to help Guarantee the safety of Canada and its citizens. The terms are No person will be granted admission to Canada if they are a member of a group who has engaged in acts of espionage or subversion against democratic gaovernment or institutions in Canada, people who believe that while in Canada they need to engage or start subversions by force of any government. -

The Singh Decision
A man by the name of Satnam Singh came to Canada looking to be a refugee, but Canada's government rejected his request under the immigration act of 1976. This act did not allow Satnam to state his case to the government but the Supreme Court said how his violated the charter of rights and freedoms, so Mr. Singh got to state his case at the end of the day. -

All of this resulted in refugees being able to have a hearing that they attend in person, a board in Canada that provides fast and fair hearings and Canada giveing people waiting for their hearing their basic necessities of life. -

This is the most recent law put in place about immigration, it sorts immigrants into four key categories to see if your eligible to come to Canada. Another thing it does is it basically makes guidelines and objectives if you want to be in a certain category of immigration. Some of the key points of this act is to help families to reunite in Canada, economically benefit Canada, respect the bilingual and multicultural character of Canada and to help develop official language minorties in Canada -
Refugees Added as an Immigration Category
Refugees were not an immigration category but as of 2002 they were added on the list as an immigration category. Due to this people now have certain criteria to follow to see if they qualify as a refugee.` -

Canada creates Immigration categories to help you find a guideline to follow based on what category you fall under if you are immigrating to Canada. There are four different categories Refugees, Family Class, Economic Immigrants, and Other. The biggest class of the four is the economic class, this class of immigrant helps to make Canada money immediately, while the other four don't make Canada money immediately -
