  • Chinese head tax

    The Chinese head tax was a fixed fee charged to each Chinese person entering Canada. It was meant to discourage Chinese people from coming into Canada. The tax was abolished by the Chinese immigration act of 1923.

    Canada was ar war with Austria and Hungary and about 4000 Ukrainian men. Children were held in internment camps and concentration camps. Lots were paroled from camps in 1916-1917 to become paid workers.

    The komagata Maru incident wa a Japanese steamship that was carrying a group of citizens trying to immigrate into Canada. The steamship was carrying 352 passengers from Punjab, Brithish India. Of them 24 of them were admitted to Canada, and the ship was forced back to India.

    The Italian Canadian internment began when Italy declared war on Canada on June 10,1940. About 500 men and 4 women were considered enemy aliens. And 100 Italian seamen who were in Canada were also subjected the to internment.

    It began after the attack on Pearl Harbour on December 7,1941 and lasting till 1949. Canadians of Japanese decent were removed from their homes and businesses to be sent to internment camps. All their belongings were sold even though they were told they weren't going to be.
