    People thought demons and spirits were the reason for illness and disease. They did ceremonies to get rid of the evil spirits. Plants and herbs were used as medicines. The average life span was 20 years. They also used a practice called trepanation where they made a hole in the skull, it was used to treat insanity and epilepsy.

    Ancient Egyptians

    Ancient Egyptians
    One of the first to keep accurate health records. When disease accrued, they called the gods to heal them. Priests who studied medicine and surgery in medical temple schools were called physicians. They believed the body was a system of channels for bodily fluids, if one got clogged they would use leeches to open them back up. They also used plants that had medicine in them to cure disease. Averge life span was 20 to 30 years.
