    Sparta

    The Spartans used flag signals during battles. One person would stand on a hill and use flag signals to relay messages to the troops.
  • 300 BCE

    Roman Legions first use flags

    Around 300 BC the Romans began to use flags for battle these flags were often square and often had the Roman motto SPQR.
  • Jan 1, 1200

    The Middle Ages

    During the Middle Ages flags were well established and all over the place. These flags like the ones before were often used for war. Unlike the previous square flags the middle age's flags were more triangular.

  • The Age of Exploration

    By the time Columbus sailed the great blue sea. Flags were all over the place. These flags were rectangular and some were even the same as thay were today.

  • 1900-Modern Times

    Today flags are every where. Now a days nations have official flags which represent there nations. Most flags are Rectangular with exceptions of Nepal and Switzerland
