This period is characterized by foreign invasions and the internal struggles that England was going through at that time, this caused that languages, races, cultures and dialects and also the parts of the language were affected by changing genders (feminine, masculine and neutral) and paradigms (nominative, genitive, dative and accusative), doing that literature of that era uses epic and historical character in poetry, religious in prose and narrative in dramas. -

Middle English
This period took place due to the influence of the Norman conquest, in poetic subjects the didactic poetry, anglo-norman poetry, alliteraly poetry, courtly poetry were used, romantic verses, lyrics that were unknown in the past era appear and prose was divided in two parts, religious and secular prose and drama was influenced by religion doing biblic narratives. -

This period is highlighted by the appearance of authors who had great ingenuity, imagination and fluency at the moment of writing. The writing of this time is characterized by its heroic and late stories as well as events that marked the lives of many individuals. -

Northern renaissance to Christian Humanism
Here a study was carried out in the 16th century where what was correct or not was classified and this was evaluated from the philosophically ancient points of view, in addition to this emphasis was placed on the values of the time all this under Latin and Greek influences in matters of writing. -

Jacobean period – King James I
The Jacobean era was characterized by the large amount of dark art based on tragedy and concern for the evil that was reflected in the literature described by the different writers of that time, at this point also appeared acid satire and the courtier entertainment. -
Carolina Period – King Charles I
In this period poetry focused on sublimity, love for beauty, puritanism, classicism, perfection of art and praise but also presented a counterpart based on metaphysics where arrogance, far-fetched images, monstrous hyperbolic and dark were the main topic, all of this was directed towards the upper classes of that society -
Puritan period
Due to the increase in Puritanism, the drama fell in a place where it was not well seen by society during this time, so much was the decline of the dramatic genre that several theaters were closed in 1642. -
Restoration age
This era was affected by the civil war and the republican government during the mandate of King Charles II, this affected the literature since it was based mainly on stories of non-conformist prisoners and autographs of royalty telling how the war was fought and how the Republicans had been defeated. -
18th century
The literature of the 18th century is based on political literature, journalism, novels and religious poetry after the appearance of Pope. The theater also had its peak and began to evaluate the scenery and resources that are needed for a play to be carried out in a pleasant way. -
Augustan age
This era was marked by civil peace and prosperity and because of that poetry reached its maximum literary expression through polished and sophisticated verses that were addressed to Emperor Augustus where patriotism, love and nature were the main themes. -
Age of sensibility
At this time, a great leap was made towards the research and improvement of English literature and learning due to the studies of Dr. Samuel Johnson who wrote poems with satires, in addition to doing autobiographies and investigative essays that allowed him to create the first English-language dictionary giving a touch of modernism at the time in literary terms. Pre-romanticism
This was a literary movement that developed throughout European territory during the 18th century which sought to oppose Neoclassicist literature. -
Romanticism
As the name implies, this was the summit of literary works whose center was the romantic topics which were based on idealisms of new beginnings due to the freedom and the end of wars throughout the territory. Four literary genres stand out here, the poetry that was used as a tool for the expression of feelings, the novel that went from having a gothic style to a libertine one, prose, which was performed in the form of speech and the drama and the dramatic scripts for plays were seen. -
Victorian period
In this era, the self-analysis and self-awareness of individuals was emphasized, this was identified by John Stuart and described for him as “the demon of men”, taking this into account, literature changed in several genres such as the novel, the verse, prose, theater and even written comedy. -
Modern English literature - 20th century
This era was marked by several events that positively and negatively impacted literature, at the beginning of the century. Due to the mentality of a coming century, novelists and poets decided to innovate and experiment in their writings. With the arrival of the First World War, the traditional writing and the predominant poets who see action returned, the Second World War dispersed creativity and intellectuality. -
Post modern period
After the Second World War, English society went from having a Marxisist thought to a religious one due to the large number of parishioners who converted to Christianism, this notoriously affected literature in three fields of it, in fiction it is specified that man creates evil as much as bees create honey, poetry is dictated that apocalypse is about to arrive and in the drama it was sought to emphasize despair, terrors and sorrows. -
Contemporary
In the last and current era, the imitations of the styles of the literature of past eras are evidenced regarding the ambience of the literary works mixed with current subjects like the global warming or the technology
