    This is the earliest and first way of communicating to educate one. During this time people believed that the most effective way to learn is to listen. People used to believe writing and documenting to be an inferior way of communicating and learning at the time. Socrates believed education has been on a downward spiral for people trying to learn through reading (Bates, 2019).
  • 700 BCE

    Written Communication

    Written Communication
    Despite the arguments of Socrates, people still wrote and documented to share information and educate. Since pen is more durable than words, people resorted to this easily. Even religious figures have used chiseled stone to spread their word to masses like Moses did. (Bates, 2019) Writings have made their way to education in many places and the industrial inventions have strengthened it's core to universities and schools in the 19th century.
  • Broadcasting and Video

    Broadcasting and Video
    In this time period, governments have resorted to broadcasting sessions through radio signals. Even though at first it started as entertainment from British Broadcasting Corporation, it later influenced in education through British Open University. There have been times where televisions were used to educate people through recorded class sessions or simply educational videos.
  • Computer technologies

    Computer technologies
    This era has 3 major sub-headlines. First is Computer-based learning that started with Skinner's machines in 1954. These machines. aimed to educate people through coded teaching machines that requires no human interaction on the learner.
    Next is computer networking, In 1970s, this technology experimented with blended learning and combined online learning through forums with classroom systems.
    Next is online learning environments. In 2000s, which are practically smartboards used in classrooms.
  • Social Media

    Social Media
    Social media is often used as non-formal education at the time. Most of the information gathered on social media is short, quick and in a click's send away. It's honestly a sub-headline of computer technologies but it's effect is more differentiated to the computer technologies.
