Polly and John are Married
-Polly and John met while working for a company called Grossart Diapers.
-The two soon fell in love, Jack then requested her hand in marriage in August 1906, she said yes.
-"They had known each other four years, courting for three of the, before they married on January 1, 1908." pg. 8.
-Polly and John spent their honeymoon in Dublin, their marriage was off to a great start.
-This event is significant as it introduces us to characters and is the start of their marriage. -
George is Born

John and Alex Steal Money

John Sails to Canada
-After John and Alex steal money John wants a new start.
-John sees great oppurtunity in Canada so he speaks to his family and tells them he is leaving to Canada.
-He initially plans to go for only one year but is in Canada alot longer.
-"'It's only for a year,' he told her, kissing her again and again." pg.10.
-John sailing to Canada is a crucial event in the story because it is the beggining of his life in Canada and the start of all the trouble. -

World War I Begins

John Wilson Joins the RNWMP
-The start of World War 1 gave John an incentive to join the army.
-"John Wilson headed for Prince Albert to enlist, but was rejected because of his weak lungs." pg. 20.
-A few weeks later John discovered that The Royal North West Mounted Police were looking for new recruits.
-In August 1914 John became a member of the RNWMP.
-This is significant because due to this event he now has a reason to stay in Canada and meets Jesse. -
John is Posted at Blaine Lake
-"I will faithfully, diligently, and impartially execute and perform my duties in the Royal North West Mounted Police Force, without fear, favour, or affection of or towards any person or party, so help me God." pg. 23.
-Soon after reciting this oath John was posted in the small town of Blaine Lake.
-There was little crime in Blaine Lake, bootleggars, Dukobars, and lunatics were about it.
-This event is crucial as he meets Jesse when he gets posted here and he now has a new life. -
John Meets Jesse and the Patterson's

John is Diagnosed With Tubercolosis
-After having problems with his lungs for years and feeling very ill John finally went to the doctor.
-John took a few deep breaths in and out and the doctor knew immediately.
-"I'm sorry to have to tell you, Jack, but you have TB." pg. 32.
-During this time Jesse took care of John and nursed him back to health.
-John being diagnosed with TB now gave John an excuse to not write to Polly and was when Jesse and John's love reached the point of no return. -
John Asks Jesse to Marry Him

Polly Arrives in Canada
-After 6 long years of Jogn being away from Polly she finally decides she must go to Canada to look for him.
-"Money was raised among the family so she could sail on the Mauretania, a luxury liner that wasn't likely to be mistaken for a troop ship by the German submarines." pg. 43.
-After financial help and Polly's parents agreeing to look after George and Helen, Polly sails to Canada.
-This event caused John to lie even more frequentlly and causes him to move away from Jesse. -
John and Polly Talk on the Phone and Arrange a Meeting
-
Polly and John Meet in Saskatoon
-While speaking on the phone John and Polly Wilson agreed to meet eachother in Saskatoon.
-This meeting gave John a huge sense of panic as he had created a new life without Polly and even had a new lady.
-John Wilson is now very worried about people finding out about Polly so he tells Polly they must move to Regina.
-"Back to Regina? Oh, Jack, do we have to go today?" pg. 50.
-This event shows the reader that something is wrong and that something bad is going to happen. -
John and Polly Move to Regina
-They rented room 2039 in a boarding house.
-"Within days of her arrival, Polly Wilson was preganant." pg. 51.
-John gets a job at the Canadian Military Police Corps.
-John Spends most of his time at work, gives Polly very little attention.
-John continues to exchange letters with Jesse.
-John and Jesse plan their wedding.
-This is an important event because it builds tension between John and Polly and creates a build up for the explosion. -
Polly is Pregnant
-
Polly Discovers the Letters Between John and Jesse
- Polly sees something hanging out of the pocket of John's coat, it's a letter. -"I found a letter from her in Jack's pocket. She thinks he's saving up to marry her." pg. 59. -After thinking hard Polly decides to go down the the police station and speak to John about it. -John embarrasses her at the station and tells her to go home. -When John gets home he lies to Polly and tells her that Jesse is just a friend. -John is now forced to do something about Polly as she has dicovered his secret

John Kills Polly
-After months of wanting Polly to just leave or dissapear John finally snaps.
-John shoots Polly in the head with a shotgun.
-He could not believe or accept what he had done.
-John then proceeded to cover up the murder by burying Polly's body and burning the car.
-When asked about the blood in the car John said, "It's from the geese." pg. 85.
-This is the climax of the story as there is no going back, he has killed his wife and married Jesse and now he has to live with the consequences. -
