    First education laws in America. Provided grammar schools and educators to the towns and education to their children. Served as a model for other colonies.

    The settlers in the 1700's moved throughout out the New World to teach and convert many Native Americans. This had a huge impact on literacy rates and got the colonies to take pride in what education can do for them settling their new home.

    American Spelling Book
    Noah Webster was the Author of American Spelling Book, this book broke spelling apart into syllables & made it easier for American to learn how to spell & read. This set up many of the Colonials to have a desire & an outlet to learn. In my opinion, this is one of the most important moments because it provided access to reading & spelling to many Americans. It also showed individuals that you can make money by being an author. link text

    Catherine Beecher
    Founder of Hartford Female Seminary & Western Institute for Women. Supporter of Common school and saw the need for female teachers . This set the path for how education and teaching preparations would be formed and her aspirations for female roles was inspiring and ahead of her time.

    Dedicated to promoting public education, Horace Mann was a huge part in the reform of american education. He served on Massachusetts State Legislator. He changed the way schooling was viewed.
  • Roberts Challenging Segregation in Schools

    Roberts Challenging Segregation in Schools
    Although this fight lasted over a century Benjamin Roberts never stopped fighting for integrated schools. In 1855 Massachusetts abolished segregation in schools. This would become the grounds for many more laws to be passes. In my opinion this is one of the most important events in history because it shows the resilience of American families to fight for their children's educational rights. link text

    The Father of Progressive Education. Dewy Believed that education should be based on the principle of learning by doing. This progressive reform was pushing more whole child learning and child centered education. This was an important role in history because it now made education fun and exciting. This was a major historical event for our nation coming together as one in education and around the nation as humans.     No Child Left Behind
    President George W. Bush put into place to ensure that children were getting the same standards of education across the US. This made state test required starting in grade 3. This was important because it made sure that no matter where you lived in the US you were getting some type of quality education in public schools and your states were held accountable for that.
