History of Education

  • Dame Schools

    Dame Schools
Dame schools started private education in the US. These schools would be run for a weekly fee, and were usually run by older widowed ladies. These schools were fairly common, but were selective based on weather or not the students could afford it.
  • Section 16

    Section 16
Section 16 mandated that every township that would sell land must designate a section of land for a public school. This spurred the popularity of public school buildings. It also created the ideas of having school districts for children to belong to geographically.
  • National School Lunch Act

    National School Lunch Act
This influenced the teachers and students in the school system. Many students who could not eat at home, or bring food for lunch, were still able to get the nutrition they need. This also could've led to adding other topics to the curriculum to keep students healthy.
  • NDEA

    NDEA
The National Defense Education Act of 1958 was one of the first major federal acts to affect education. This affected the curriculum of the country by introducing STEM classes and more languages to the schools.
  • No Child Left Behind

    No Child Left Behind
This created more options for students who are not as ready for classes as some of their homework can be caught up on through tutors or just added help. This is very influential to me because this was a big deal while I was in school, and it did many things to make sure students didn't very fed up for a few months before hand.
