Equilibrium

History of dynamic equilibrium

  • Claude Louis Berthollet

    Claude Louis Berthollet
He developed the concept of chemical equilibrium and found the some reactions were in fact reversible. As well Berthollet contributed to the modern chemical nomenclature. During hisw work he investigate the composition of ammonia, suphuretted hydrogen and prussic acid. His experiments on chlorine which he believed to be oxygenated muriatic acid, led him to the discovery of a good bleaching agent.
  • Cato. M Guldberg and Peter Waage Part 2

Cato. M Guldberg and Peter Waage Part 2
They also saw that a chemical equilibrium was a dynamic equilibrium. The law of mass action states tha the rate of an elementart reaction is proportional to the products of the concentration of the participating molecules
  • Cato. M Guldberg and Peter Waage

Cato. M Guldberg and Peter Waage
Between 1864 and 1879 Cato and Waage came up with the law of mass action. This law would allow for chemist to predict the behaviours of solutions in dynamic equilibrium. This theory has two aspects to it, one is the equilibrium and the second aspect would be refered to as the kinetic aspect. Both of these aspects came from the research by Guldberg and Waage where they discovered that equilibrium constants were found by using kinetic data and the rate equation they made.
  • Josiah Willard Gibbs

    Josiah Willard Gibbs
Gibbs theorized that when the chemical potential energy or the gibbs energy was minimized to its smallest, the reaction will become into a state of equilibrium as long as things such as temperature and pressure remained constant. This showed us that if a solution was not at equilibrium the liberation of excess potential energy would end up in the driving force for the mixture to change until it reaches equilibrium. Equilibrium can be attained when the gibbs energy is at it's lowest point
  • Henry Louis Le Chatelier's

    Henry Louis Le Chatelier's
Louis proposed a principle that would help chemists predict the effects that a chane in condition to a system and equilibrium would do. he stated in this principle that and change in the system by external cause would cause the system to shift to try to counter this affect.
  • Van't Hoff

    Van't Hoff
Hoff published a book on Chemical kinetics. The book talks about the order of a reaction using graphics and bu apply laws such as the thermodynamec law of chemical equilibrium. During his work, Hoff created a formula in thermodynamics that relates the change in temperature to the change in equilibrium constant if you are given enthalpy change. One major use of this equation is for finding a new equilibrium constant at a new temperature while everything else remains constant.
  • Kendra Mogck

    Kendra Mogck
Today or someday within the next few day you will mark this. Ms. Mogck is a lovely great person and definitely a wonderful chemistry teacher who favors kids when they suck up like so. Also i have included a jeopardy game to test your skills at the history of chemical equilibrium.
