History of Computing and Internet

  • Charles Babbage is born

Charles Babbage was an English mathematician, inventor and mechanical engineer.
  • Ada Lovelace is born

Ada Lovelace was an English mathematician and writer.
  • Ada Lovelace meets Charles Babbage

Ada Lovelace was greatly influenced by Charles Babbage, who was a mathematician and an inventor. They were dear friends, and the man was a kind of mentor to Ada. This is when she began studying advanced mathematics. Ada was asked to translate an article that Charles Babbage had written about the engine. Not only did she translate the text, she even added her own ideas and thoughts into it. When adding her notes, it made the article three times larger than it originally was.
  • Charles Babbage invents the computer

    Charles Babbage invents the computer
The most important thing that Charles Babbage did for the impact of computers was to design and invent the main elements of a modern computer. This included the central processor, the memory and data organization. This had a great impact on our society due to the fact that it opened up the possibility of future inventions with computers. He invented the computers, but he failed to build them. These were called "The Babbage Engine".
  • Ada Lovelace's article is published

    Ada Lovelace's article is published
Her work was published in a scientific magazine. Ada influenced the fact that the human mind began imagining and trying to put together what she wrote: instructions for machines that could do advanced calculations. The machines were never created by her, but she had all the instructions on how to do it. Without her, we might’ve not figured out where to begin or what to visualize from the computer.
  • Ada Lovelace dies

Ada Lovelace dies due to a variety of illnesses, such as cancer.
  • Charles Babbage dies

Charles Babbage tragically passed away due to urinary tract infections.
  • John von Neumann is born

John von Neumann was a mathematician, physicist, computer scientist and engineer.
  • Von Neumann Architecture

    Von Neumann Architecture
John von Neumann impacted the computers by developing the logical design. He specifically paid attention to storage and instructions, and is now one of the most basic concepts of computers. I mean, without storage, what would we be able to do on a computer? We wouldn’t be able to save files and our computer and internet would be much more different. This concept was named “Von Neumann Architecture”.
  • Steve Wozniak is born

Steve Wozniak is an American computer scientist, inventor and programmer.
  • Bill Gates is born

Bill Gates is a businessman, software developer and investor. He’s best known for founding the software Microsoft at just 20 years old!
  • John von Neumann dies

John von Neumann sadly passes away due to cancer.
  • Bill Gates invents Microsoft

    Bill Gates invents Microsoft
The discovery has made huge success in the world of internet and computing. They for instance changed the simplicity of computers: before, the computers were very hard and complicated for humans to use, but Microsoft made the computers simple. Bill Gates and his company invented the Smart TV, changed gaming and invented the smartphone and tablet. Imagine where we would be without all of these inventions! Humans use these technological devices everyday in today’s society, all thanks to him.
  • Steve Wozniak releases Apple I

    Steve Wozniak releases Apple I
Steve Wozniak invented “Apple I computers” along with his co-worker, Steve Jobs. This was the first release of a desktop computer. It impacted all the computers owned today due to the fact that before they were invented, computers were dulky and very expensive. A computer could be the size of a fridge, and only universities had them. And they were very slow. Today we have fast working, small and fairly inexpensive computers - all thanks to Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs.
