    Leonardo da Vinci's Ornithopter

Leonardo da Vinci had studied the concept of flight first and made drawings about his theories on flight. Even though the ornithopter was never made it showed how humans could fly.
  • First hot air balloon

Joseph and Jacques Montgolfier invented the first hot air balloon by sending smoke from a fire to blow hot air in to a silk bag. It was first tested with a sheep, duck and a rooster. After they traveled a mile safely they sent men up.
  • Blimps

    Blimps
Blimps were introduce in the 1780s by Lieutenant Jean Baptiste Marie Meusnier. This man was considered to be the father of blimps. He presented drawings that portrayed his blimps to be 260ft and egg shaped and powered by a steam engine.
  • Gliders

    Gliders
George Cayley was a man who was always curious about flying and he designed many different gliders that were controlled by body movements. Over 50 years George he perfected the design. One of his first gliders was flown by an unknown boy.
  • The aerodrome

Samuel Langley realized that the plane would need power to fly for long periods of time. He built a model and then got a 50,000 dollar grant to build the real thing. He built what he called the aerodrome with a steam powered engine. It was too heavy and it crashed and then Langley gave up on flying.
  • The first airplane

The Wright brothers began their experiments in the 1900's and and went through different glider shapes and designs before they had their first successful flight in 1902. Then in 1905 they flew the
"Flyer lll" and mankind was able to fly.
  • Autopilot

Sperry Corporation developed the first autopilot aircraft in 1912. The autopilot was connected to a gyroscopic heading indicator and that went to the attitude indicator to the hydraulically operated elevators and rudders.
  • The first fighter plane

    The first fighter plane
In 1915 Roland Garros developed the worlds first fighter plane by taking the outline for a regular plane and putting a machine gun inside and having it shoot through the propeller.
  • Messerschmitt 262 Schwalbe

This was the first fighter jet to enter service in the world. Heinkel Flugzeugwerke had built this model in the 1930s and it never saw active service in the German army.
  • The first helicopter

    The first helicopter
Igor Sikorsky had the first accent of his helicopter the VS-300 at Stratford, Connecticut. He later patented the idea.
  • First public jetline service

De Havilland made advancements to a jet and its engines in the 1920s, but they were never commercially available. On May 2, 1952 the Comet 1A was here. It was able to travel 480 mph, a record speed at that time. This service was short lived because of a number of fatal crashes.
  • Solar powered plane

    Solar powered plane
The Solar 2 impulse went around the world non stop, a never seen feat before. The plane had more than 17,000 solar cells on its wings. This plane and flight was done to prove that we don't need to use fossil fuels.
  • Flying car

The flying car is just about here and prices are set already at 1.2 million.
  • Airbus

Not much is known on this subject but is meant to hold many people easily.
  • The flying saucer

Its exactly what you think it is. Just like in the movies, expected to be completely circular and cut carbon emissions by half.
