    Phoenix Junior College was part of the Phoenix Union High School District from 1920 - 1962. It then joined the Maricopa Community Colleges which began as the Maricopa County Junior College District.

    Enrollment doubles from 1 million in 1965 to 2.2 million by 1970 due to baby boomers graduating high school and those who are trying to not get drafted to Vietnam

    The name changed again from Maricopa Junior to Maricopa Community as the need grew for more branches, and is still continuing today.

    Employers and community college partner up by recommendation of the Nationwide Commission on the Future of Community Colleges and offering training programs which can be offered at the facility or employer location.
