Gloves are introduced
A tablet that is roughly 7,000 years old shows when they first starting using gloves. Gloves weren't used until circa 1500 to 900 BCE on Sardonia and Minoan Crete. This changed boxing because it helped prevent against hand injuries. -

Koryko's were the first known form of a punching bag used to practice. This changed boxing because it provided a way for the boxer to practice on their own. -
Prizefighting
Boxing became very popular in England and was fought bare knuckled. This latter form of fighting was called prize fighting. This changed the way of boxing because it became very popular which lead people in the interest in not letting the sport be forgotten. -
Boxing Competition
Britain's first boxing competition took place in 1720 between the Duke of Albemarle and Christopher Monck. This was a huge deal because it was a very popular sport in Britain so for it to turn into a competition it was even more engaging for citizens. -
Boxing Rules
Before the 1740's there were no regulations and protection in boxing. The rules created in the 1740's were focused on safety. This was huge because it allowed for the boxers to have more protection while playing a sport they enjoys. -
Broughton
Broughton is cited for the creation of mufflers. Which were a predecessors to the modern day of boxing gloves used. This changed boxing because it shaped how modern day gloves are. -
Marquess of Queensberry Rules
These rules were created for competitions held in London. This was the end of bare knuckle fisting because it was now considered an assault. This provided safety for the boxers because knuckle fisting was hard on hand structure and joints. -
Changing amount of rounds
Championship matches were limited to up to fifteen rounds. However, after the death of Duk Koo Kim, the matches were reduced to a total of twelve. This changed the way of boxing because it also became another regulation to the sport of boxing. -
Better Protection
Today gloves are made out of leather and very well padded to prevent injuries. Modern day gloves worn by professionals can weigh 8 ounces by each separate glove. This has changed the outcome of boxing because it gives more protection to the boxer hands.
