European Exploration: British

Nov 14, 1770

Captain James Cook has found Australia, found an area, and called it New South Wales. He ignored the Aborigines there and settled there. Sailors have mapped Australia, too.

European Exploration: Dutch

Mar 13, 1773

They explored to Australia but did not settle there, instead, they were going to stay at another place but the Aborigines there attacked them, they never explored since then.

First Fleet

Sep 3, 1787

People went on ships to find a prison colony.

Prison

May 20, 1788

British prisoners settled in Australia.

New South Wales

Sep 16, 1788

New South Wales was now officially a prison island with convicts, marines, and the marines’ families. 20% of them were girls.

Port Arthur, Tasmania

Mar 13, 1833

At Tthis time, prisoners who comitted crime that the punishment should hve been there life, they went here where the security was high and strict till 1850.

Boudaries

The government has placed boundaries on the colonies that still are here today.

People stopped brining prisoners to Australia.
After, free immigrants came and started businesses.

The commonwealth of Australia was established.

The government passed a legislation to help them.

All the legal ties with the British Empire were severed.
