Aborigines Arrive
Around 6,000 years ago, people from southeast Asia called the Aborigines arrived in Australia. They occcupied it for about 40,000 yrs. The word aborigines means “people who were here from the beginning” They found different ways to adapt to the enviroment and live off the land, and they were nomadic. They created lots of inventions and historic stories. -
The Dutch(Netherlands) Arrive in Australia
The dutch arrives in Australia but do not settle there because the Aborigines attacked them. After that they ended all further research and exploration. -
James Cook sails around Australia
When Cook sailed around Australia he named an area New South Wales. He paid no attention to the Aborigines and claimed the land for Britain. Sailors also mapped eastern Australia. -
“First Fleet”
The First Fleet was a group of British Ships that left England with prisoners to establish a penal colony in Australia. A year later brittish convicts settled in Australia. -
Arrival Of Europeans
When Europeans arrived in Australia they wanted to live on the coast, where the Aborigines live. Because Europeans wanted their land, they waged a war and won due to the advantages of guns, soldiers ,and diseases that killed nearly half of the aborigines in Australia died and all of Tasmania died. They forced the remaining Aborigines to work and live in the outback. They also wrote laws that hurt the Aborigines. -
New South Wales
New South Wales was officially a prison colony consisting mainly of convicts,guards, and the gurd's families or relatives. Until1868, bitish sent prisoners to Australian penal colonies. By then, many free immigrants started to live there and they created businesses, trading posts, farms, and more. -
Port Arthur
In Tasmania, this was the place where the worst british and irish criminals went. These covicts have committed a crime in their country and then again on after arrivaing in Australia.This was a place with some of the toughest security. If prisoners happen to lose their life, they were sent to Island of the Dead. -

On this date the Common Wealth of Australia was established.Melbourne served as the national capital until Canberra was completed in 1927 -
Aborigines are Favored
Around this time laws were edited to give the Aborigines or natives. They could can hold a seat in Parliament and
have their own schools that teach their culture, language, and art. They could also live modern lives. For example some are teachers, lawyers, mechanics, nurses and politicians. -
