    The Phenakistoscope is thought to be one of the earliest forms of animation. It was operated by spinning the provided cardboard disc ad then viewing the reflection of the produced image in a mirror through a lot of moving slits. Through this method, it imitated motion, which was why it was seen as an early form of animation.

    A flip book, also known as a kineograph, is a book ,usually on notecard sized paper, that has images on every page. As you flip through the pages, it simulates movement and is therefore, an early form of animation. This was targeted at children, which represents how animation now is usually targeted at children.

    Fantasmagorie is thought to be the first animated film using hand-drawn animation. It's a French animated film and entirely silent. This film was created by drawing each individual frame on paper and then "shooting each frame onto negative film." In total, the film had 700 drawings and each was shown twice, so it stacked up to almost 2 minutes of run time

    Gertie The Dinosaur is considered the first cartoon to feature an engaging character, however, that's not what this event is about. Felix The Cat, introduced by Musical Mews and Feline Follies, is seen as the first animated movie star. Also, he was created in the silent film era.

    Steamboat Willie was an animated short film directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. It was the first showing of Mickey and Minnie mouse. It's also known for being the first Disney Cartoon with synched sound.

    The Golden Age Of American Animation

    During this "Golden Age" of animation, many of the cartoon characters and companies were coming into play. For example, in 1930, Merrie Melodies was created, which also intoduced Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd. Other companies and people like Walt Disney, Warner Brothers (Merrie Melodies), MGM, and Fleischer were all introduced.

    Animation On TV

    Soon after the golden age of animation, soon came the American TV Era of animation. As TV's became more popular, animations would soon adapt and start producing some well known cartoons and stations. For example, in the mid 80s, The Disney Channel and Nickelodeon were present everywhere.

    Modern Animation

    Near the end of the TV animation era, CGI began to revolutionize animation. CGI (computer generated imagery) used 3D modeling instead of 2D. 1980 and onward use 3D imagery, maybe not necessarily CGI, but maybe an advanced version of it.
