Flip Book
The Kinora was an early motion picture device
invented in 1896 by the Lumière brothers, Auguste
(1862-1954) and Louis (1864-1948), the first
filmmakers in history. It consists of a viewer with a
concave lens mounted on a wooden stand. A handle
on the stand rotates a wheel, attached to which is a
type of Flip Book.In 1898, rights to the Kinora were purchased by
Kinora Ltd. In 1902, the device launched in Britain
and was the most popular moving image viewer
until the First World War. -

2D Animation
The first animated projection (screening) was created in France, by Charles-Émile Reynaud, who was a French science teacher. Reynaud created the Praxinoscope in 1877 and the Théâtre Optique in December 1888. On 28 October 1892, he projected the first animation in public, Pauvre Pierrot, at the Musée Grévin. -

J. Stuart Blackton made The Humpty Dumpty Circus in 1898. Stop motion animation is among the earliest forms of filmmaking, and for good reason. The basic manipulation of time and space necessary for stop motion is also necessary for narrative film. -

Neil Gaiman’s Coraline opens this weekend, and it’s directed by Henry Selick, one of the few modern masters of stop-motion animation. Although he was trained as a traditional animator, he really came to fame with stop-motion, having directed The Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach, and Monkeybone. In the day and age of everything being whipped up in CGI. -
2D Animation
Disney did create one of the earliest and most popular 2d animations in history, it was in fact Emile Cohl who created the first 2d animation, known as "Fantasmagorie". "Fantasmagorie" was a 2d animation that was created in 1908 by using thousands of black and white drawings of a stick figure. -
3D Animation
It was produced in 1972 and is believed to be the world's first computer-generated 3D animation. It was created by Ed Catmull, a true pioneer of 3D technology, who was a computer scientist at the University of Utah birthplace of the famous Utah teapot. -

3D animation is a process that involves taking fully 3D objects and making them animate and move. Most 3D animation today is done using CGI (computer-generated imagery). From something as simple as a short cartoon to something as complex as a feature-length film, a 3D animation is a complicated piece of art that takes lots of practice and skill in order to properly execute. The most famous company that creates CGI animations is Pixar Animation Studios. Founded in 1985.
