  • St. Stephens declared capital

    St. Stephens declared capital
    Located in SW Alabama, St. Stephens was designated Alabama's first capital and the temporary seat of government by Congress. Two sessions of the territorial legistlature met here.
  • Huntsville declared capital

    Huntsville declared capital
    The first Constiutional Convention assembled in the north AL town of Huntsville. The first General Assembly was held.
  • Alabama declared a state

    Alabama declared a state
    It all happened that day. Alabama joined the Union.
  • Cahaba named capital

    The teritorial legidlature chose Cahaba as capital, where the Cahaba and Alabama rivers met. The secons session of the legislature met there.

  • Tuscaloosa declared capital

    Tuscaloosa declared capital
    The General Assembly chose Tuscaloosa as capital and deserted the oft-flooded and unhealthy Cahaba site. Tuscaloosa was a thriving community located on the Black Warrior River.
  • Amendment to State Constitution

    An endment approved by voters of Alabama struck out the section of the Constitution designating the selection in 1825 as 'permanent".
