    Psychiatrist Leo Kanner studied the condidtion of Autism and saw in children that if they displayed a desire to be alone, he called this condidtion Early Infantile Autism. This started diagnosing children with Autism at a more efficient pace.

    Psychologist Hans Asperger develops and describes a milder form of Autism called Asperger Syndrome. Asperger Syndrome is a developmental disorder that significantly effects social interactions and nonverbal communication skills.

    During the year 1967, Psychologist Bruno Bettelheim developed the theory that Autism was caused by mothers not loving their children. This was proven to by untrue and does not support evidence based research.

    Creation of IDEA
    IDEA was created and passed by Congress. This legislation allows students with disabilties to recieve a free and public education. IDEA governs how states and public agencies provide early intervention, special education and related services to students with disabilities.

    The Journal of Children of Psychology conducted an experiment with twin children. One of the children had been diagnosed with Autism and the other child had no disability. The experiment discovered that Autism was caused by genetics and there are differences in brain development.

    To be consistent with state legislation, it was mandated that states provide programs to children with disabilties from the start of birth. Children with autism recieved these accommodations as soon as parents went through the legal process.

    To rely the message of Autism to the general public, Sesame Street created a character named Julia. This character is someone that has Austim and displays many of the characteristics that these children have. People had mixed views on this topic becuase they felt it singled out certain groups of kids. I'm in favor of having diversity on TV.
