History leading to the mission to Mars

  • Yuri Gagarin, First Man in Space

Yuri Gagarin, First Man in Space
The Soviet Union challenged the world and the Federation Aeronautique Internationale by sending Yuri into space without first creating a braking system. Yuri’s reentry capsule came through the Earth’s atmosphere on a ballistic trajectory. Around 20,000 feet he ejected and landed on earth safely. The FAI then decided to change their rules to, the great technological accomplishment of spaceflight was the launch, orbiting and safe return of the human, not the manner in which he/she landed.
  • JFK's Famous Moon Speach

    JFK's Famous Moon Speach
JFK gave his speech because Russia sent a man into space. Man had gone into space and lived, now the goal was the moon. Kennedy knew that the U.S could do it. In his speech his words were clear, we needed to lead the world into space with the banner of freedom and peace. To accomplish this amazing idea it was going to take sacrifice. Sacrifices like when Russia sent Yuri into space. The People new the sacrifice that was being made by the astronauts.

  • Landing on the Moon

    Landing on the Moon
Before going into space 363-foot rocket will use its 7.5 million pounds of fuel. The first big problem occurred when computers sounded alarms as Apollo was going past an area littered with boulders. When they landed 30 seconds of fuel was left. Armstrong later tells people that the biggest worry was landing, his words were these “The unknowns were rampant." This shows how the Apollo 2’s crew had the greatest risk they may have ever faced in the world.(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwZb2mqId0A)
  • Salyut 1, First Space station

    Salyut 1, First Space station
The first problem occurred when a minor setback happened. As the astronauts tried to dock with the Salyut, the hatch leading into the space station did not open. In reentry a problem rendered the air supply of Soyuz 10 toxic causing one of the astronauts slip into unconsciousness, they did survive. As astronauts lived in Salyut 1, smoke from a control panel caused the crew to consider abandoning the station or staying. The problem was caused by a unit that just needed to be switched off.
  • First Shuttle into space

    First Shuttle into space
The Space shuttle Columbia had a solid fuel tank that was about 7.8 million gallons of fuel attached to the shuttle, until the shuttle was in space. As the shuttle touches ground, it's going about 214 - 226 miles per hour. The chance of it just crashing right then, were huge. Also the chance that the shuttle would not stop and hit something was even worse. They did it though, the Columbia landed safely and it started a new era (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pt6Bt1pZ4Is)
  • Hubble Launch

    Hubble Launch
On April 24, 1990 the Hubble telescope was sent into space. Its length 43.5 ft, its weight 24,500 lb. The Mission was to see further in space.
  • Prepping for a Mission to Mars

Prepping for a Mission to Mars
One risk on the trip to mars, is space boredom which can lead to going homicidal or killing of other astronauts. To get people to mars some scientist have thought about hibernation. The problem with hibernation is no one knows how it works. The homes on Mars will be small, this can lead to feeling of being trapped and will most times lead to death. It is bileved to be possible to grow plants on mars. The best plant at the time to send would be potatoes as long as they had a hard skin on them.
