History class unit 4.

  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
The British gave Americans parcels of land west of the Appalachian Mountians. The Native Americans and British would fight because the Natives didn't like the British military on their land. American colonists had to keep their settlements to the east. The colonists very much did not like this so in most cases they just ignored it. As a reaction, few times the British soldiers forced American frontiersmen back across the border. The enforcement was not very strong though.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
Britain had spent alot of money on colonies, the war, and etc. King George the third thought that the colonies owed him money so he set up the Sugar Act. The Sugar Act means they charge you three pence per pound of sugar. The colonists did not like this because there was tax but no representation. They thought since they had no say in the matter than they shouldn't have to pay the tax. The British governments reaction was to include another tax called the Stamp Act.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was where you had to have a stamp on all important documents such as court papers, news papers, playing cards, and so much more. The problem was, was they had to buy these stamps from the British government and the prices of the stamps would vary depending on what document the stamp was going on. The colonists were very unhappy about and showed that clearly, Though protest and actions they ended up getting it repealed in 1766.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
The Townshend Act included putting taxes on colonial imports such as lead, glass, paint, tea, and paper. They figured the colonist would rather pay more for imported goods then local goods. The colonist once again were not happy about this seeing as there was no fair representation in the government. No one hated these taxes more than the Bostonians who relied on these goods for there economy. This lead to fights breaking out and people getting arrested and killed.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre started when a boy was being rude to a British soldier. That soldier than started to beat the boy, while the boy was being beat other boys started to throw snowballs filled with rocks, stickes, and ice at the soldiers. The soldiers Captain then told the soldiers and boys to fight. As far as we know the Captain did not tell the soldiers to shoot but as soon as one did the others did leading to five deaths. Not many people were happy with the British soldiers being in a city.
