In these sad times, President Andrew Jackson forced large amounts of Native American tribes to march from their land that Andrew Jackson is seizing, to Native American camps in parts of Kansas and Nebraska. -
The California Gold Rush
A man named James Marshall made a very important discovery on this date. At the time he was building a sawmill, he saw a shiny stone in a nearby river. Later, he said, "My eye was caught by a glimpse of something shiny....It made my heart thump for I felt certain it was gold." A year after he made his discovery, people all over both California and the United States started coming to the site where gold has been found to try to strike gold. -

The Attack on Fort Sumter was a federal outpost that was attacked by Confederate troops. This is how the Civil War was started. -

This was the day Basketball was invented by Dr. James Naismith in Springfield Massachusetts. It was invented to condition athletes in the cold months in Massachusetts. -
The Establishment of the Philadelphia 76ers
Known as one of the oldest franchises in the NBA, the Philadelphia 76ers were established in 1946. Since being established, they have won 3 championships, 14 Hall of Famers, and 47 playoff appearances. So the 76ers actually have a very rich history. -

This was a special day for the United States. On this day, the Supreme Court banned segregation in all public schools. -
The 100 Point Game
This was the day that Basketball player Wilt Chamberlain made history, by being the only man ever to score 100 points in one game. Since then, only one man has even come close to beating that record, Kobe Bryant in 2006, scoring 81 points. -
September 11th, 2001
A terrorist attack that killed about 3,000 Americans. It was caused by terrorists hijacking four commercial airplanes. Two of the hijacked airplanes were flown into the Twin Towers, and another one was flown into the Pentagon. The last one was flown in a field in Pennsylvania. -

The Cleveland Championship Drought Ended
On this day, Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers won the NBA Finals after being down in the series 3-1. It was also the first championship that the city of Cleveland won in about 50 years.
