On July 16th, 1861, Union troops led by Irwin McDowell walked to Massas. They were greeted by hundreds of spectators from Washington who expected a very short and entertaining battle. Soldiers and spectators were not ready for what happened next. In this brief battle of Bull Run It was known as the First Battle of Bull Run. The south was pushed back and the north could no longer advance. -

Brown vs Board of education
In the earlier years of 1950 five school segregation cases out of Delaware, Virginia, Kansas, South Carolina, and Washington D.C. formed the title of Brown v. Board of Education. It allowed 9 black students to go to Central High School. These 9 students became known as the little rock nine. -
