    Cedric Diggory uses a Transfiguration spell to change a rock into a dog to distract the dragon. He is burned, but retrieves the egg and passes.

    The Third Task of the Triwizard Tournament is held. Harry Potter and Cedric Diggory tie for first place, and upon seizing the Triwizard Cup, are both transported to the Little Hangleton graveyard.
    Barty Crouch Jr is exposed as having posed as Alastor Moody, murdered his father, and tampered with the Triwizard Tournament. He is given the Dementor's Kiss.
    Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge refuses to believe that Voldemort has returned.
    The Second Wizarding War unofficially begins.

    Dolores Umbridge arrives to teach DADA (poorly) at Hogwarts. She gains further power as High Inquisitor, and briefly becomes Headmistress of Hogwarts. She is very unpopular among students and staff. She loses support of staff and the prefects/ head boy and girl, so uses Filch and creates an inquisitorial squad to carry out her bidding.

  • Wesley Twins drop out of Hogwarts

    Late April:
    Monday: Fred and George Weasley depart from Hogwarts. They created a Portable Swamp which made Umbridge tell them they were about to find out "what happens to wrongdoers in my school". Fred and George then agreed that they had "outgrown full time education" and flew away while announcing the opening of Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes in Diagon Alley.

    17 June:
    Dolores Umbridge and some Aurors attack and attempt to arrest Rubeus Hagrid, McGonagall attempts to defend Hagrid.[9]
    Minerva McGonagall is stunned severely by the Aurors, Hagrid defeats the Aurors, outwits Umbridge and escapes from Hogwarts and forced into hiding

  • Voldemort Officially Returns - second wizarding war begins

    The Battle of the Department of Mysteries ensues; the prophecy is destroyed and Sirius Black is murdered by Bellatrix Lestrange Voldemort duels Dumbledore and possesses Harry, but flees when the Ministry of Magic arrive. Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge is forced to accept Voldemort has returned, Umbridge is removed from Hogwarts and Cornelius resigns from Minister for Magic. Dumbledore Returns. The Second Wizarding War officially begins, according to the Ministry of Magic.
