1884 - The federal government forbids the potlatch ceremony, a gift giving ceremony shared among the First Nation peoples. Until 1951, anyone caught participating in potlatch would be jailed for two to six months.

1885 - Canada Government introduces the "head tax", a sum of money a Chinese immigrant would need to pay to enter the country.
When the head tax was introduced in 1885, it was a 50 dollar tax to enter Canada to prevent Chinese immigrants from living there. By 1903, the head tax became a large 500 dollar fee. -
1889 - After the son of Adelaide Hoodless dies from drinking contaminated milk, she devoted her life to educating women about food, safety, nutrition and hygiene.

Plenty of immigrants moved to Canada to live a better life. Canadians also encouraged the Ukrainians to immigrate to Canada. -

1905 - Frank Oliver replaces Frank Sifton as the minister of the interior.

1906 - Frank Oliver introduces the Immigration Act, an act to discourage immigrants.

1996 - The last residential school closes. The government made an official apology to all the former residential students.
